Ponta Delgada Sea Pool

A big saltwater pool on the north coast, with barely a tourist in sight.

The village of Ponta Delgada, between São Vicente and Boaventura, has a large sea-filled swimming pool and a smaller children's pool built into the rocks, plus a grassy terrace and a café.

Why it is worth the detour

It is properly local: families from the north come here at weekends and almost nobody else does. The main pool is large enough to swim lengths, and the ocean crashes just beyond the wall.

Free entry, lifeguards in summer, changing rooms and a snack bar. In winter the facilities close and the sea takes over.
