Praia do Seixal is a small crescent of genuinely black sand backed by green cliffs and a waterfall. A short walk away, the Poças das Lesmas rock pools give you sheltered swimming when the beach is rough.
The beach
Small, dark and dramatic, with the cliff waterfall visible from the sand. There are lifeguards in season, a beach bar, showers and a car park. The swimming is only comfortable on calm days — the north coast takes the swell directly.
The pools
The Poças das Lesmas natural pools sit on the promontory a few minutes west, reached by a path from the seafront. They are free, unsupervised and much more sheltered than the beach.
