Sunrise over a sea of clouds from a Madeiran mountain viewpoint

The unmissable three

Pico do Arieiro at sunrise, Cabo Girão's glass skywalk for the 580 m drop, and Eira do Serrado above Curral das Freiras.

Quieter alternatives

Miradouro do Guindaste and Miradouro da Beira da Quinta on the north coast, and Ponta do Pargo lighthouse in the far west where there is rarely anyone at all.

Timing and parking

Arieiro's car park fills forty minutes before sunrise in summer. Cabo Girão charges a small entry fee for the skywalk and has an adjacent free viewpoint.

Prices, opening hours and trail access change often. We last checked this on 28 June 2026 — confirm before you set off.
